The Broadway Shopping Centre – Environmental Policy

At The Broadway shopping centre we recognise that we have a responsibility to reduce the impact of our operation on the environment wherever possible. Sustainability and reducing environmental impact are central to our business strategy alongside making a difference within our local community.

We are committed to:

  • Complying with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations
  • Encouraging environmentally responsible behaviour throughout our workforce
  • Improving the awareness and understanding of environmental issues amongst contractors, retailers and visitors
  • Continually improve by putting sustainability at the centre of operational decision making; incorporating smaller and more substantial changes to centre operations and processes which have a positive environmental impact
  • Preventing pollution wherever possible and practicable by developing non-polluting practices
  • Sourcing electricity that originates from 100% renewable sources for the centre common areas
  • Communicating ways in which the local community can engage and contribute to centre sustainability initiatives
  • Setting goals and targets to continually improve our environmental performance

Our Environmental Goals

  • Reduce our carbon footprint in line with the current 2030 climate energy framework ambitions by
    • Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions
    • Increasing, where possible, our renewable energy consumption
    • Further increase energy efficiencies across the scheme
  • Work with our onsite team, retailers and visitors to promote the waste hierarchy of Prevent, Reduce, Recycle, Recover; therefore, disposing of as little as possible with zero waste to landfill
  • Ensuring safe and efficient storage and disposal of all waste
  • Educate all stakeholders

The Broadway is proud that it has achieved

ENERGY

2016-21 TARGET 10% reduction in electricity usage

2016-21 ACTUAL SAVING 52.1% reduction, which is the equivalent of:

  • Enough energy to power 203 standard homes for a year
  • 482,966kg of carbon emissions savings from reduced electricity usage

WASTE

2016-21 TARGET 10% reduction and ZERO to landfill

2016-21 ACTUAL 55% reduction and ZERO to landfill

  • If waste was measured in transport this is the equivalent of 41 London buses or 16.5 Bradford buses filled with commuters
